To: comments@whitehouse.gov Subject: ridiculous police activity in Japan cc: itojun@itojun.org Date: Sat, 15 Apr 2006 19:17:55 +0900 (JST) From: itojun@itojun.org (Jun-ichiro itojun Hagino) Dear Mr. President, my name is Jun-ichiro Hagino, a computer engineer living in Tokyo. I'm writing this to get your help. You are our only hope for us in Japan, since there is no systematic way to change our police's plans. in Japan, starting last year police officers and bureaucrats are installing ridiculous rules. For instance: - motorcycles are towed away in Tokyo metropolitan area. even though there is no facility to park motorcycles! - starting coming June, car parking will be treated with "no mercy" rules. if you stop the engine and leave your car on the street, your car will be digitally photographed and you will be penalized for illegal parking. even if in emergency situation such as nature calls, medical emergency, and so forth. of course, in metropolitan Tokyo area there is no enough parking lots. - the number of installation of N-system, a famous privacy invasion device (it reads license plates of cars running and puts data into database, so basically your location is known to the police if you are driving) is increasing. There are other ridiculous rules are installed in Japan, such as PSE law (if your electric device does not have PSE certification, it is illegal to hold/buy/sell it), which would become a huge trade barrier for products made in the States. Japanese police and bureaucrats are out of control. Mr. President, please take action to help us in Japan. Thank you. Jun-ichiro Hagino
